About
Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment removes inflammation or infection from inside a tooth while preserving the natural structure. This allows you to maintain your natural bite, chewing function, and appearance — without needing the tooth removed.

How the Treatment Works

The inflamed or infected tissue inside the tooth is carefully cleaned, shaped and sealed. This stops bacteria from returning and helps relieve discomfort. Afterwards, the tooth is strengthened with a protective restoration — often completed the same day using our in-house CEREC ceramic system. Our focus is on gentle technique and preserving as much natural tooth as possible.

Why a Crown or Onlay Is Often Needed

Many teeth that require root canal treatment are already:

  • Weak from deep fillings
  • Cracked or structurally compromised
  • Worn over time

Because the tooth is no longer hydrated internally, it can become more brittle. A ceramic crown, onlay or overlay helps protect the tooth from future fractures and restores natural function.

This:

  • Reinforces the tooth
  • Restores strength
  • Helps prevent cracks
  • Supports long-term comfort

Assessing Whether the Tooth Can Be Predictably Saved

A root canal is suitable when:

  • The crack is not too deep
  • Enough healthy tooth remains to support a crown or onlay

It may not be appropriate when:

  • A crack extends into the root
  • There is insufficient structure to rebuild reliably

If so, we discuss alternatives such as extraction with ridge preservation and (if desired) future implant placement.

We are always honest and treatment decisions are based on long-term stability, not temporary fixes.
