Maxillary Expansion
In some adults, the upper jaw can be narrower than ideal. This may lead to crowding, crossbite, mouth breathing, reduced tongue space, or tension in the jaw and bite. Adult maxillary expansion creates more room for the teeth, tongue and airway — supporting comfort, stability and long-term oral function.
Because the upper jaw is fully developed in adulthood, we use MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion), a modern approach designed specifically for adults. MARPE applies gentle, controlled pressure to the bone rather than the teeth, allowing the jaw to widen gradually and predictably.

We begin with digital scanning and, when needed, 3D imaging to understand your bite, jaw structure and airway. From there, we plan a thoughtful, step-by-step approach. Expansion is often followed by clear aligner treatment to gently guide the teeth into their ideal positions. In some cases, we may coordinate care with an orthodontist or oral & maxillofacial surgeon to ensure the best and most stable outcome.
